From Death to Life, Easter Hope at Tenwek

“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

I don’t believe it was by chance that Jimmy received a call from family on Good Friday saying his mother’s condition was worsening and that he should consider coming home. After much prayer, we began the long journey back on Easter Monday. Just moments before we arrived, she passed peacefully into glory. A year earlier, Jimmy had led his mother to the Lord, and we hold firmly to the assurance that she is now living eternally with Jesus. Jimmy led the funeral, sharing a powerful message of the gospel and the hope of life after death. We were grateful for a meaningful week with family.

As we reflect on this past month at Tenwek, we continue to see the Lord’s faithfulness in the work He has given us. The patient below presented with a slow growing salivary gland tumor for over 20 years. What appeared on imaging to be a manageable case became far more difficult in the operating room, as we found the facial nerve stretched thinly over the tumor. For over eight hours, we worked carefully, praying for wisdom, steadiness, and mercy. The outcome was more than we could have asked for—he has movement in all areas of his face. We give all glory to God for preserving his function and restoring his life in such a visible way.

We also cared for a precious baby born at Tenwek with a complete unilateral cleft lip. We live in a broken world, and disease is one of the consequences. In many communities here, children with this condition are seen as cursed and often go untreated.  By God’s provision, we were able to repair her lip at the ideal time. Her new smile is not only beautiful—it is a testimony of God’s love for her.

Each patient, each surgery, each moment is an opportunity to serve Christ by serving others. We are continually reminded that this work is not ours alone—it is the Lord’s, and He invites us, along with you, to be part of it.

Thank you for praying, giving, and walking alongside us. Your partnership is a vital part of what God is doing here in Kenya. We are deeply grateful.
