Togo 10/24-11/7

I have arrived safely after what was a longer day of travel than expected.  God is so merciful to go before me and make a way.  This hospital is the second largest in Togo.  A Christian hospital that attracts patients from other lands including Ghana.  The local private and public hospitals have a reputation of poor care so even patients from the capital city Lome are drawn to Karolyn Kempton Hospital.  The hospital grounds are beautiful in a lush tropical environment. Karolyn Kempton Hospital Prior to my arrival the full time missionaries have so graciously worked to identify patients needing ENT care.  But as I have experienced before, God is the one that draws His people in that are in need of care.  It seems that my work takes 3 times as long here as I adapt to the local customs and language.  French is the national language but most patients speak Ewe, the local tribal language.  I have had to draw on my high school french which has brought on many smiles as I stumble throug

Arrived to Togo safely!

Chase arrived safely to Togo!  Travels were a bit sketchy to Togo, but she is safe.  She's finding that the internet is quite weak at the guesthouse and she can sometimes get service up at the hospital. We've been able to 'Viber' a few times with some success, and I'm always asking how she's doing and what can we pray for before being disconnected. Chase's neck continues to bother her, especially after some of the longer cases.  Please pray for rest, relief from pain, and neck mobility. The hospital is a bit more primitive than Tenwek and they lack certain equipment and supplies, but she is getting by.  Please join us in prayer for one of her patients, his name is John. Chase spent a late night last night caring for him and he is very sick.  We spoke briefly this afternoon and she was telling me about him and what was going on and I know that she's hurting for him.  May God have mercy upon these very sick patients. I wish I had some photos to share

First week in Kenya 10/16-24

View outside the Kijabe house "Not by might, not by power but by my spirit says the Lord" The Lord only knew the busyness of the week.  He goes before us and prepares us.  My weeks before the trip were relaxing and peaceful.  This was preparation for the weeks to come.  We arrived Sunday around 1pm after our 2 1/2 day journey.  6 surgeons, 1 family practice physician, and 5 helpers made up our team.  Sunday afternoon we screened patients in clinic and on Monday surgery began.  Each patient had a cleft lip, cleft palate or previous surgery needing a revision.  Mothers had come with their children from hours to days away.  they had been waiting for this life changing surgery for their children.  Each one hoped their child would be next.  We turned no one away.   The length of each day was long, from before dawn to way after the setting of the sun.  My manna each day came in the area of physical strength.  My physical exhaustion drove me into the hands of Jesus each day

Chase arrived safely to Kenya!

Packed & ready to go! Thank you for your prayers - Chase arrived safely into Nairobi, Kenya and traveled over to Kijabe and has begun the cleft lip/palate surgeries.  Please continue to pray for her.  They are very busy with many, many children waiting for the surgery.  I spoke with Chase this afternoon (Wed., Oct. 21st) and she just got back to the guesthouse at about 8pm from a full day in the OR.  Her neck has been bothering her with some numbness in her left arm (she's left-handed).  These cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries require some different positions for the surgeons and it really wears and tears on them.  I've been praying for deep, healing sleep each night and that the Lord would give Chase and the rest of the team strength and peace during the day. I thank you for joining me in these prayers!  Chase hopes to get some pictures and put up a blog post when she gets some time. Thanks and Blessings, Jimmy
