Preparations for April 2012 trip

The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured,
the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.

                                                                                            Matthew 11:5

We have felt a continued beckoning to the work at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet, Kenya.    The needs are many in this region where the Kipsigis and Massai tribes live. Tenwek Hospital is a tertiary referral hospital known for its surgical care and a place where God heals. The hospital draws not only the local tribes but also people in need as far as Uganda and Somalia.  Our work last year seemed to barely brush the surface of the many needs including diseases of the head and neck to needs of basic daily living.
As I have reflected on last years experiences I realize that the Lord is not so much interested in my surgical skills as He is interested in a willing vessel to go and be used by Him.  Although the diseases are advanced and there are many who suffer, we trust that God will go beyond our earthly skills and heal the sick.  I will be helping cover at the hospital while the full-time missionaries are on retreat.  We will be serving for most of the month of April and because of the length of stay the kids will stay behind in Rochester.
Jimmy will be working with the hospital chaplain, visiting patients and also help supply the local people with a water filtration device.  Many illnesses occur from the poor water found locally and this particular water filtration device will help families have clean, healthy water.
We covet your prayers for this trip.  The long trip and time change is draining.  Pray that God will prepare the way and bring those in need to us.  Pray for endurance for Chase and wisdom over medical and surgical decisions.  Pray for our children during this long separation and strength for Jimmy’s parents who will be watching over the kids.
We desire to continue to bring supplies including much needed medications, suture materials and other medical supplies.  This year we will be donating a high definition screen and camera to be used for endoscopic surgery at Tenwek.  We hope to purchase a light source in addition. We will also be purchasing water filters to build 5 gallon water filtration systems for local families in need.  If you desire to contribute to the donation of supplies and equipment we have enclosed the necessary information.
Thank you for your faithful prayers for us and those in tremendous need.
