Third Week
This week has been a time of steady work in the clinic, operating theater and casualty. There have been some really tragic cases coming through casualty. My heart breaks for the suffering here. We see these things in the US but I have such a love for these precious people that I have to hold back the tears when I minister to them.
This 38 year old male was so destitute that he cut his throat in an attempt to take his life. When asked why he did this and does he know Jesus he replied, "Yes I know Jesus but this was satan who told me to do this." His injury was 7 days before he presented. He was unable to eat and talk as the laceration was through his pharynx (upper swallowing tube). He was taken to the OR where we needed to place a breathing tube and repair a large tear in his pharynx. He has been in the ICU but recovering well. He has been unable to communicate due to the tracheostomy tube. This is temporary and will come out this week. I look forward to talking with him more about the Lord and having the Chaplains work with him. Please pray for him. This 16 year old female was the victim of attempted rape and assault by her boyfriend. She was stabbed multiple times in the neck, face, chest and hand. She went to the OR urgently for control of hemorrhage from her neck wounds, washout and closure of her lacerations. We are praying that the Lord will erase the memory of this event.
This 30 year old male presented with nose bleeds, cranial nerve 6 palsy and headaches. Examination revealed an aggressive tumor of his nasopharynx. He has no insurance and no money for even a biopsy. He will be looking for money and returning this week for biopsy. He did not know the Lord but we lovingly explained his need for the ultimate healer Jesus Christ. He willingly lifted his hands in prayer and gave his life to the Lord. Although his cancer is far advanced he has the assurance of eternal life. He met with the chaplains and received a bible in his language. I rejoice for him but see the burden of the news of cancer on his face. Please join me in prayer for him.
Today after rounds we made our usual visit to Kitoben Children's home. I am continually amazed at all God's provision for this orphanage. Samwell and Alice are now retired and are working solely at the orphanage. Despite loss of their incomes they continue to add onto the school. They parent over 60 orphans and oversee the teaching of 145 primary grade students up to 7th grade. Your generous donations have helped build the school
Thank you for the continued prayers and support for this ministry. God gets all the glory. It has nothing to do with me and everything to do with the Lord. May he be glorified for his mercy and grace are amazing!
In Christ,
Chase
