God is able!

Friday 6/27/2013 I am reminded of the story of Gideon who was a frightened farmer found hiding wheat in a winepress to avoid the enemy.  God called him "Mighty warrior" but he could not recognize this name because he saw himself as weak and worthless.  "my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family."  But God wanted to use this man.  God called him to "go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian's hand.  Am I not sending you?"  God sent Gideon weak into battle and reduced his fighting men to 300.  God wanted to make sure He received the Glory, not man.  God was with Gideon and his weakness was turned to strength as it says in Hebrews 11. We often think we have to have special talents or gifts in order to be used by God.  On the contrary, God is looking for an empty vessel to fill up with HIS might and power.  We spend our lives accomplishing and gaining skills but shouldn't we spend our time emptyin...

Jimmy, Hunter, and Isaiah returned to Kenduiwo Children's Center with a few other missionaries from Tenwek Hospital accompanied with a huge bag of sports equipment.  As we traveled up into the tea growing hills, a storm came through and we wondered what we were going to do with the children.  I quickly realized that you cannot contain fun and games because of some rain and so the children moved us into the dining hall and proceeded to stack all the tables and benches and all of a sudden we had a game room! We played games, sang songs, and took a million pictures!!  Loads of fun and laughter!  When Hunter pulled out her rainbow of colors of nail polish, most games stopped and a line quickly formed beside her.  We figured she painted about 400 nails this afternoon - boys and girls! On a side note, I gave them 4 filters last year and they reported that they are working well, but could use a few more, so I gave them 4 more.  They rejoiced and thanked you al...

We have arrived!  We awoke sunday morning to the glorious sound of the Kenyan's worshipping the Lord from the hills.  Their worship filled the air for hours.  What a beautiful praise unto the Lord. Habakkuk 3:17  "Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.  The Sovereign Lord is my strength, he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights." It is Monday and we have finished our first day of work.  I was busy in the OR with a very difficult surgery.  A 2 hour case took me 5 hours.  I had to verbally praise the Lord for every victory throughout this surgery.  Despite what I saw before me- a struggle- I knew God was already victorious in this circumstance but could I make my way though the darkne...
