SECOND WEEK
Psalm 100 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
As a family we thanked the Lord today for all the blessings He has rained upon us. We are truely grateful. The kids are learning that the Lord's blessings come in different packages than we would expect in the world. Hunter has had steady work with the missionary children and in the intensive care nursery. Aaron and Isaiah have worked on smaller projects. They have brought much joy to the surrounding children as they play frisbee and toss the ball.
I continue to be impressed by the weariness of the workers and pray for them. I am daily encouraging them in their work. My work in the operating room has slowed down now as I focus more on the emergencies and causualties rather than the scheduled elective cases. An eleven year old boy had a complication related to an ear infection requiring 2 surgeries the second of which involved draining infection from his ear bone (mastoid) and intracranial space. Mortality rate is high in this setting but I am praising God that now 48hrs after his second surgery his fever is decreasing and he is showing some improvement.
Discouragement has been an issue as it feels like I work so hard yet barely make a dent in the suffering. The suffering does not feel oppressive but is prevails in every room in the hospital. Quietly, the staff pray and the chaplains make their way around from patient to patient. One by one I believe God is touching them in this place. I pray that the Joy of the Lord would break out from this place. That there would be rejoicing amongst the pain.
Please continue to pray that we do not get weighed down by the heaviness of the work load or the weight of the suffering. Pray for encouragement for Aaron especially as he desires to be used but feels he is having no impact. Pray for Jimmy on Wednesday as he will be leading devotions for the physicians and I will follow with a lecture to the doctors. I pray that God will take over that hour and move in a mighty way.
